"Oh! The Places We'll Go and the Things We'll See..." as we study the 6th grade curriculum together this year. Hello, and welcome to your first year at Pine Ridge Middle School! I am excited for a year of learning, laughs, and doing life together in Grade 6, and look forward to the journey through 21st Century Learning. Throughout the duration of the year we will be utilizing the many educational applications of Google, including Google Classroom. Students, and their families, will be able to access course materials and important information on this website, as well as on Google Classroom. Although students are expected to record homework in their agendas, my homework calendar can be accessed from the menu (top, left corner). Please refer to the Homework Calendar on a regular basis, as this will be updated daily with classroom assignments, upcoming tests, project due dates , and other important dates. Parents are encouraged to go online with their child on a regular basis to stay up-to-date with what is happening in the classroom. Each child has their username and password to access Google Classroom (no login is necessary for the website). We will be working hard this year to develop organization, study habits and time management strategies. It is essential that parents, students and teachers work together as a cohesive team. I look forward to celebrating your child's success throughout the school year! If you wish to contact me please email me by using the form on the Contact Me page or at [email protected] |
Grade 6 brings many new challenges and routines to school life. Throughout the year we focus on helping students move into the middle school atmosphere and to take responsibility for their own learning by helping them make positive choices regarding school work, test preparation, organization, & behavior. Throughout the year students will learn how to manage their workload and organize themselves so that the work doesn’t become overwhelming. They will notice an increase in responsibility for their own learning. We also give them opportunities for leadership within the school.
There is no doubt that these are unprecedented times, and there will be many challenges along the way. With that being said, we are all in this together. Although school will look very different than it has in previous years, there are many things that won't change. Most importantly, you can be assured that you child will receive quality, equitable instruction in a safe, supportive atmosphere.

School Work LoadYou can expect that students will be responsible for completing assignments to the best of their ability. If projects or assignments are not “handed in”, these items will eventually become “1”s in our Grade Book. We have a Work Recovery System that gives students the chance to work through missed assignments & allow them to take responsibility for their learning. In keeping with a 21st Century commitment, students will be able to use multiple mediums to show their work (i.e. Google documents, PBLs, FlipGrid, projects, Google Slides, & much more).

CommunicationThe primary mode of communication for our grade level is an updated homework calendar, Parent Portal, email, teacher website, & Google Classroom. Parents no longer need to wait for report cards to be sent home to see how their child is doing in school. Through the Parent Portal, parents can see their child’s current grades, if assignments are handed in on time, or if any assignments are missing. Parents should check the Portal on a regular basis. Parents will receive a letter outlining how to sign up for the Parent Portal.

TechnologyWe allow students to use personally owned devices (POD) in class at the discretion of the teacher. Each student, and their parent/guardian, signs the Internet Terms of Use Policy which clearly states the expectations of students. This year, each student will be provided with a device that they will use throughout the day which will not need to be shared. At various times students will use different forms of technology to show their learning across the curriculum. Not to fret however, spelling and grammar still remain an important aspect of writing, whether it be via technology or not.
